Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard

MEET MATT CANDEMERES

MATT CANDEMERES HAS ALWAYS HAD A PASSION FOR BASKETBALL. HE STARTED PLAYING FROM A YOUNG AGE AND HAS BEEN WORKING CAMPS AS A COUNSELOR SINCE HIGH SCHOOL. THE CAMPERS’ PARENTS RECOGNIZED HIS TALENTS AS THEY WATCHED THESE CAMPS AND HE STARTED TRAINING INDIVIDUAL LOCAL TEAMS AND PLAYERS. MATT WAS AN ALL LEAGUE PLAYER AT SACHEM HS EAST AND WENT ON TO PLAY DIVISION II BALL AT CALDWELL COLLEGE WHERE HE IS STUDYING TO GET INTO THE TEACHING PROFESSION.

HE WAS BROUGHT IN TO WORK WITH JERRY AND HE BECAME AN ASSISTANT COACH AT ST. DOMINIC’S HS WHILE STILL AT COLLEGE. HE GAVE UP PLAYING TO FINE TUNE HIS COACHING AND TRAINING ABILITIES AT WHAT HE STATES IS THE BEST TRAINING GROUND FOR YOUNGER AND OLDER PLAYERS TO BRING THEIR GAMES TO THE NEXT LEVEL. HIS PASSION FOR PLAYING AND COACHING HAS HIM AT A CROSSROADS AND HIS DESIRE TO TRAIN AND PLAY DOES NOT GIVE HIM ENOUGH HOURS IN THE DAY TO PURSUE HIS PASSION ON WHETHER TO CONTINUE HIS COLLEGE CAREER OR CONTINUE TO BROADEN HIS TRAINING ON A MORE FULL TIME BASIS.

MATT HAS CONTINUED TO SAY, OTHER THAN HIS FATHER, JERRY HAS HAD THE BIGGEST INFLUENCE ON HIS BASKETBALL LIFE. BEING ABLE TO OBSERVE AND LEARN FROM JERRY HAS BEEN MORE THAN AN EXPERIENCE FOR MATT. “WHEN IT COMES TO BASKETBALL, THE DIFFERENT THINGS AND CONCEPTS JERRY POSSESSES YOU SIMPLY CAN’T FIND ANYWHERE ELSE”. AS A TRAINER, THE THREE THINGS HE REMINDS PLAYERS THE MOST ARE; TO PLAY WITH CONFIDENCE, BE RELENTLESS WHEN IT COMES TO WORKING HARD, AND ALWAYS PLAY WITH PASSION.
